The new deal in ergonomics and design

New generation POS terminals – more sophisticated than traditional “cash registers” – offer new “hardware” (hardware) and “software” (software) solutions to Mauritian merchants. Between design, ergonomics and data management, the point of sale environment has now been completely redesigned.

A quick tour of “hardware” trends to appreciate the progress made.
The wave of new generation, fully computerized checkouts has come from high-volume stores and fast-food outlets. Today, it affects local shops. A new technology, a new name: these cash desk computers are now called “Point of Sale Terminal” (POS or TPV (1) in French).

Tactile and slender

The specificity of the POS is that they are equipped with a computer housed in the « base » and a large flat touch screen allowing the recording and direct control of cash receipts. No more kicks in the central base placed on the ground.

Many XL-ent Mauritius customers have opted for a recent version of the Sunmi XL Android terminal. Key points: « The display is clear and the data appears very quickly, the Seiko Japan printer is integrated. Although the screen is particularly large, the base takes up very little space. And it is known that at the level of the cash register, we never have enough space! «

Compact, modular and ergonomic, POS are also designed to withstand the inevitable dirt at the point of sale, such as grease or dust or humidity.

Borice Empeigne (XL-ent) tells us that the “fanless” (microprocessor without ventilation) is more and more in demand “it equips all our models with Android POS. « 

“The fanless system eliminates the risk of the fan being blocked by elements such as dust or crumbs and therefore prevents overheating and breakdowns. It is the basis of the POS that allows heat dissipation. Completely protected from harsh environments, the device gains in longevity, ”he explains. From port to communication medium

Thanks to the presence of a multitude of communication ports (connections), these devices can of course be connected to a cash drawer, a « handheld scanner », a bank card terminal or a receipt printer, but also to a standardized scale, a magnetic card reader (customer loyalty) or biometric data (user recognition), a secure electronic payment system or a surveillance camera (anti-theft) …

The possibilities of integration are really increased tenfold. But the magic of these systems is that the wires totally disappear. Thus, only the terminal proudly sits on the counter.

The old “alphanumeric” display turned towards the customer and intended to inform him of the price to be paid is totally outdated and replaced by a screen, a real communication medium.

“With an enlarged surface, all in color, the merchant passes his logo, his flagship products and of course the ticket of the current sale on this type of screen. We are working on the integration of promotional films, going through an advertising trailer or a broadcast of what is happening in production for example. A project is underway with us ”, underlines Aïssa Bundhoo, expert consultant at XL-ent.
